A quick interim report from our Komodo expedition cruise where we are currently cruising on board Pindito. It’s been a really nice week so far … it turns out, we’re following in the footsteps of Sylvia Earle and David Doubilet. Ocean Geographic are doing a film about their work and we keep seeing them pass by.
Our trip started in Bali and we went snorkelling with whale sharks before heading towards Komodo. Manta Rays have put on a bit of a performance and yesterday we went to see the Komodo Dragons with the lovely guides at Rinca. The nearby snorkel/dive site also allowed everyone to see Mandarinfish, a cute crepuscular fish that lives in coral rubble among the beautiful flower-like soft corals. It’s a type of dragonet, hence the article title.
It’s been a lovely trip so far, with a wonderfully eclectic group of Aussies brought together by a love of the sea. Each day has given us more and more to look back on and I am sitting here at 5AM writing up the trip report, which is why I thought I’d spend a few minutes sending you something to read as well. Below are a few photos from the trip. I’ll put up the full trip report from this expedition next week and then I guess I’ll be back in the frigid waters of Port Phillip Bay!
My next expedition with available space is in February to Raja Ampat, which you can find out about by following this link. Feel free to drop me a line at simon@wildiaries.com if you’d like to know more.
