Snorkelling in the Lembeh Strait in June/July

by Simon Mustoe

Hi there, I’m stuck in Jakarta airport waiting to get home and thought I’d like to remind the snorkelers among us of a trip I have coming up next June. While I was just away, we had German filmmaker Otto Honnegger with us and he mentioned that the resort we’re using ‘Dive into Lembeh’ is one of his favourites. He’s been almost every year for the past 15 years. Nice to know!

While Lembeh is ordinarily associated with diving, the snorkelling spots are excellent, as this US blog also suggests. When we were there last year, there were a couple of Aussie snorkelers who introduced us to some of the spots near the resort. Sites like Nudi Falls are popular. And the resort itself has a great reef which is jam-packed with fish life. You will never see as many clownfish! Here’s a video by other visitors.

My plan is to dedicate a boat and guides specifically to snorkelling and I need just two more people to make this work. As you can see the cost is reasonable, including flights from Australia. The resort, food, drink, gardens, birds, endemic mammals, incredible underwater life etc. all make this an exceptional place to be.

These photos were all taken snorkelling or at least very close to the surface on our trip last year. The top images feature the house reef.
