Valuing A Whale to Survive The Next 100 Years: Futuresteading

by Simon Mustoe

I recently joined Jade Miles from the Futuresteading Podcast. We talked about the wider impact of saving wildlife in our own backyards and how governments are beginning to enable communities to act as custodians. We also covered how animals make ecosystems work, their impact on our daily lives and how valuing the human response to nature can result in localised opportunities for people to contribute to the livelihood that they belong to. Including discovering how the true value of a whale can change the world and why the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy may be one of the most important conservation books of all time!

We also found out how there has been an eleven times increase in the amount of funding available in the last decade for nature based solutions. And why bringing the voices of many for co-designed outcomes represent the solution to us becoming more connected to the ecosystem, leading to positive outcomes for both our economy and our lifestyles – learning that decline in our loss of species has had a greater economic impact than all the other climate and pollution issues combined.

Here is the talk to listen to when you’re driving or just looking for an hour of inspiration.
