Finally I’m back and rested after an exhilerating couple of weeks with guests in the Banda Sea. I’ve now had time to complete the Banda Sea Expedition Report for October 2024 and present it to you here to read in full (see below). As you may already know (as I have been mentioned it quite a bit) the next trip is in mid-February to the incredible Raja Ampat. On 1 December, I’m also doing an online presentation and Q&A about the region. Please sign up to attend here.
I’ve been a bit remiss with other updates and stories as I’ve been working on the new book which will be out next May. I haven’t even been snorkelling in my local area for a while, due to a bit of an ear infection. The trip to the Banda Sea has reinforced my view, however, that we are underestimating the hope nature can bring. Our lives are so full of self-centred daily news and chit-chat we amplifyAmplification (of nutrients and energy). Animals consume plants and other animals and in doing so, reintroduce important energy-containing nutrients back into the environment, at even higher concentrations and in patches. Amplification of energy is driven by migration and happens at every scale, from insects moving daily in and out of your vegetable patch, to African wildebeest herds and the seasonal More problems without balancing this against a true understanding of nature.
